Search engines have been integrated in to our daily lives. When we have a question, we turn to our favourite search engine for an answer. Maybe we should call them answer machines? People use the search engines when they are looking for information, want to find a company, product, service, cause or an idea.
Most searches on the search engine are generic with descriptive words to what you are looking for. Not brand names or terms. If your website has no search engine visibility on those keywords you will not be seen by the public.
Search engine visibility means getting your company’s name and brand to appear on search engine results pages for many keywords that are related to your product or service. So how does one go about achieving this? Why do people use search engines today?
Analysing the Enviro and MarketingSherpa B2B Report 2009 identified that only 10% of people go to a search engine like Google, type in a keyword and then click through to a Web page and buy a product, all on the same day. The rest of us go to the Internet to get information and do research on the product or service we are interested in.
So how do you increase your search engine visibility?
- Optimize your website and content
- Press releases
- Write articles and create Squidoo lenses and Hubpages
- Start a blog
- RSS syndication
