The SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of your blog for search engines is quite similar to the optimization for normal websites with some important differences. The goal with optimizing your blog for search engines such as Google is to bring in more targeted traffic to your blog from these engines, web 2.0 sites, social networks, etc. In order to do this, you will need to increase the search engine rankings of your blog on search engines as well as blog search engines and blog aggregators. The SEO foundation for both websites and blogs is still keywords. These could be typical phrases that people will use when they do searches online. There’s a number good quality keyword researching tools available and some are free and some you will need to pay a subscription fee. Keywords The first step to optimize your blog is to choose between 5-7 good descriptive keywords for your blog. These keywords will serve as a guide for the topics you will be blogging about. You can use these keywords in the categories, tags and labels of your blog. Titles The title of each blog posting is what will attract readers if it is unique and interesting. The title tag is very important to the search engines. Always try to create an intriguing title that will catch a reader’s attention and include one or two of your keywords in your titles. Linking Getting links from other blogs builds the importance of your blog in the eyes of the search engines and readers. There’s a couple of ways on how you can get these links. Use the links (blog roll) feature to trade links with related blogs that you respect. Always write original and interesting content that will make others link naturally to you. Provide some sort of tool, e-book or analysis tool that other bloggers can link to. Create some sort of controversy that will kick off a “buzz” amongst other bloggers.
