Here are five Do’s and Don’ts for landing page design:


  • Use attractive colours. Colour is often the first impression we get of a website, so make sure that the colours you pick are attractive and relevant. Using the company colours is a great idea, but don’t be afraid of getting more creative to really make your landing page pop.
  • Plan your layout. A sensible, practical layout is essential to a successful landing page. Visitors must be able to gather and digest your page’s information rapidly or they will quickly move on.
  • Include quality content. An attractive landing page with bland content will quickly turn your visitor away, so make sure that your copy is attention-grabbing and relevant to the product or service you’re offering.
  • Add social proof. Like case studies or testimonials, social proof adds third-party credibility to your website, helping to create a trusting relationship between your company and a potential customer.
  • Include a call to action. Always be clear about what you want your visitors to do when they land on your page, whether it is to buy a product, review a service or sign up to receive news about your company. Make it attention-grabbing and concise, without making it feel as though you are bullying your potential customer.


  • Use every current design trend. Trends are great for making websites look fresh and current, but using too many will just overwhelm and confuse your visitor, making it hard for them to find the information they want and causing them to leave.
  • Forget your contact details. Always have a way for your visitor to contact you. Not only does this tell them where you are and how to get any queries answered, it builds trust between your company and the web page user.
  • Always use your homepage in links. Link to pages that are relevant to the keywords, not just your homepage. Your homepage is the easiest for a visitor to find, but this will open up more information to the visitor about specific products and services he/she are searching for but may be unaware that you provide.
  • Use generic copy. Copy is the key to engaging your visitor, and the more generic it is, the faster they will leave and never come back. Exciting, relevant copy that has been well-researched shows your visitor that you have invested time and money in making your landing page informative and useful.
  • Include lots of media. With media, less is more. A couple of relevant high-quality videos will do far more than ten irrelevant videos combined with a music player and animated graphics. Too much media is an immediate repellent, so ensure that the media you provide is limited to the best.
