From social butterfly to social media marketer

So you’re already spending most of your day on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube AND you’re blogging, you might just as well get paid for it. Companies in South Africa are starting to realise that social networking sites are effective marketing tools, but they don’t know how to use this tool to their advantage.  This is where the social media marketer comes in handy. A social media marketer helps companies to make sense of the chaos in the social media world and helps the company to connect and communicate with patients/clients/customers on a more personal level.

Relationship marketing

Relationship marketing is formally referred to by companies as building, maintaining and enhancing mutually beneficial relationships with their customers. Note the “mutually beneficial” – so the relationship must benefit both the customer and the company. Relationship marketing popped its head out many moons ago when companies realised that satisfied customers, equals loyal customers and loyal customers equals repeat business, which in turn (usually) equals lots of money for the company.

Relationship marketing via social media

Social media has made keeping in touch and in-feeling with your customers so much easier – that is if you not only know how to use social media, but how to use it to your advantage.  Facebook and Twitter humanises an otherwise faceless company and gives a company the opportunity to respond to good and bad feedback from customers.  Companies are worried that social media exposes them too much. Surprise! You have always been exposed and bad word of mouth has always been a reality, you just didn’t know about it.  Now the bad news just travels faster and more publicly, with far more reach. And social media gives you the opportunity to publicly respond.

So if you’re unsure about social media get a social media marketer with excellent communication skills and expertise in social media marketing to get your company on the map – the online map that is.
