As 2012 draws to a close we evaluate the year that has gone by and set our goals for the new year. We often make vague resolutions such as “I will tweet and blog more”. Here are our tips for having a good new year’s resolutions for social marketing.
Resolve to have a good social media marketing strategy
What would you like out of your social marketing this year? Is it higher engagement, leads, sales or brand building? You can not target everything at once, make a campaign based strategy that could focus on brand building for the first quarter, thereafter engagement, etc.
Put an editorial calendar in place
Identify what you would like to focus on this year and draw up a broad annual calendar that includes holiday periods and special events as well as themes you would like to focus on. Doing a little research on Google trends can help you identify popular topics and keywords to include in your calendar. Once you have your annual calendar you can break it down to weekly topics using popular keywords to write your content.
Keep in mind that you need to write relevant content for your target audience. Using the correct tone and voice will help them identify with you on social media channels and will encourage interaction and conversation.
